Fast Sami Moves to Fourth in ASCS Rebel Regional Points

A quick race update from our ASCS race in Fayettville, North Carolina. The 'crew' made it to North Carolina on Friday afternoon about 5PM having made good time on our trip from Plant City. We meet friends that had moved to North Carolina from Colorado and we are all glad to spend time visiting and relaxing Friday evening and Saturday.

Uncle Bill, Samantha, Allen and I headed to the track about 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon with a new found confidence in this team. We arrived at the track with a car that had just about every component on it gone through, tweaked and adjusted prior to getting to the track. I want to thank Mr. Collins, Tyler Godwin and uncle Bill for the countless hours put into this car in preparation of this weekends race.

Mr. Collins and Tyler are headed off to the keys for 2 weeks of fishing with family and friends, but we look forward to heading to North Florida to race with them in a few weeks. Sam draws a 21 in the pill draw which would normally be a decent pill, however all drivers seem to draw low numbers tonight. We start inside 3rd row in the first heat.

Sam runs a few hot laps and gets comfortable with the new set up fairly quickly. A quick phone call to Mr. Collins a few minor adjustments and Sam buzzes off to run her heat. The green flag drops and Sam works in heavy traffic, she is actually picking a line that isn't on the bottom. Is she moving from the depths of bottom feeding closer to the feeding depth of Sharks?

She runs hard but we continually spin the tires and winds up finishing 6th. I know this will put us starting deep in the field but I have confidence in our young driver. Another quick call to Mr. Collins, a few more adjustments, and Uncle Bill pushes Sam off for the A- Main.

We start 5th row outside. Samantha probably has the strongest start of her short Sprint car career. She powers on the start and at the end of the first lap she is challenging for 6th position. Turn 1, lap 3 she is pressing for 4th when a car ahead of her spins. She gets on the binders and loops the car to the outside, no contact but we obviously are going to restart in the rear of the field.

Restart is good, the car is working well and you see Samantha getting more comfortable and confident with every lap. She works hard and works back to 5th place. A late race caution and a throttle issues allows Gavin Thomas to slide by her in the last couple of laps giving Samantha 6th place finish.

We pack it all up and for once we get to sleep instead of drive all night to get home. We got to have breakfast with Allen, Laura and the boys and then head South for a ten-hour ride. Made it back to PC Sunday evening. All safe and nothing bent. A good way to end a race weekend. She worked hard with a very inexperienced crew and makes another good finish. Each time she is in this car, I can see drastic improvements and determination. Thanks to all that have help and contributed to making this team possible. There is so much more than racing here, it is about team, goals, and friendships. It is car preparation and then off to Georgia for two nights of racing.

WTS Green Valley Gallery and Update

Just wanted to give a brief weekend race report. Samantha, Uncle Bill ( Thats Me ), the Wetherington Tractor Service WTS Team and I have made it safely back to Plant City, Florida Sunday about 11AM. We left Friday a little after noon, drove about 7 hours and found a hotel for the night, making sure they had Speed Channel so that we could catch the WOO race at Lowes.

Left Saturday morning and had a 2 hr. drive to the track. We ate lunch, stopped at Wal-Mart and still at the track about noon. Uncle Bill and Samantha immediatly went to tinkering and working on the car. I went to overseeing the work and staying out of the way. Tyler Godwin and his Grandfather, from here at Eastbay Raceway, were parked next to us and introduced themselves. They offered advice and loaned us a few small tools we didn't have thru the day.

12 noon until racetime makes for a long day at the track. Drivers meeting finally came, Sam drew a 16, after all the drivers drew Sam would start 5th in the first heat. Tyler will start back row of the 2nd. heat. Sam starts the heat and has to check up because the car in front of her was slow in starting, Disaster averted! Ran a hard race and finished the heat 4th.

Top 8 draw pills for their starting position of the feature. Samantha drew a 6 so we start 3rd. row outside. We start behind Tyler who was starting in the 4th position. Green flag drops and we seem to lag on the start, I think we dropped 3 positions and then within a lap or a lap and a half The left front wing post breaks and the front wing twists and lays down on the hood.

I settle in, planning for a long and painful race of Sam just holding on. Thank goodness Sam drives hard and deals with things as she has to. 2 laps later Sam passes 2 cars in turns 3/4, She is fighting the car but continually goes forward running 5th when the first red comes out. Uncle Bill takes to the Quad and heads out to the car on the track, with strict instructions " DO NOT TOUCH THE WING" that would have mean't immediate DQ.

Once Uncle Bill got there Sam was more concerned that she hadn't had any brakes on the car since lap 6, she wasn't worried about the wing. The race was finally restarted and Sam continued to fight her way forward while aggressivly defending her line from attempts to pass her. 2 more red flag stops and 2 attemted green, white, checkered finishs and she brought home the Rick Chancey Farms/ WTS MAXIM in the 4th position in a 15 car field.

This is the hardest race I have seen her run, obstacles came up and she just continued to overcome them. I have no finger nails left and that was by far the most nervous I have been watching her race. It has taken a lot of money, time, effort and dedication of all involved to make this team and group what it is and I want all to know it is appreciated.ASCS official came to me this weekend and ask if we would consider having Samantha be one of the drivers to run The BRODIX RACE OF CHAMPIONS in Knoxville Iowa.

It is an invitation only race and ASCS would like extend the invitation to Sam as long as she remains in the top 10 in points of the REBEL REGIONAL. The race is at the first part of August right after 3 nights of the 360 Nationals and is the day before the 410 Nationals start.Let me know your thoughts.

Sami on TV Winternationals Revs Up Tampa Bay

Brighthouse Networks featured Fast Sami. They reported: The Winternationals are now underway at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa. It involves a month's worth of dirt track racing. Tampa Bay On Demand's On The Town reporter Virginia Johnson hit the track with some locally sponsored sprint car teams to find out what it takes to drive. One of the drivers is only 18 years old. She's Samantha Taylor, and she started racing at age five when her dad raced dirt bikes.

Taylor told Tampa Bay On Demand, "He bought me a car before I was born and then shoved me in when I was about three years old." That's why Taylor says she has a soft spot for the smaller race fans, like 4 year old future race car drive Jonah Hanneken, who stopped by. When asked what it's like being a female driver, Taylor replied, "You just race with the guys. Nobody knows the difference when you have a helmet on."

Jason Sides has 15 years of experience behind the wheel. "Everybody should try it at least once," said Sides. Virginia takes the car out for a spin. Virginia even got the chance to put the pedal to the medal. After a crash course and suiting up, Virginia bravely stepped into a spring car. She noted that the idle is so high it moves without hitting the gas, and felt like driving a scary, out-of-control bath tub surrounded by a huge cage. The Winternationals runs from now until February 23rd.
